The lemon groves of Sorrento, Italy are interwoven into the city. The lemons that are harvested from these lemon groves are used primarily to make “limoncello” a lemon liqueur produced through out Southern Italy. Sorrento has a similar feel to Naples but with less tourists and a more local ambiance.
Sorrento offers a wide variety of small cafes, pizzerias that use wood-stoves to make their pizza perfect, a few tourist gift shops, and easy access to public transportation. Pompeii makes for a great day trip from Sorrento on the train. I would highly recommend Sorrento as an Italian getaway for those looking for something a little less touristy.
