Review of Nashville Downtown Hostel

Nashville Downtown Hostel, honestly one of my favorite hostels, which is really saying something since the amount of hostels I have stayed in is quite large. Plus, it is the only hostel in Nashville.

Location: GREAT! The hostel is located on 1st avenue, alongside the river. This makes for a short walk to the Broadway, which is the heart of “the district” and country music. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and small markets near by for all of your Nashville needs. Read here for more about the nightlife in Nashville.

Atmosphere: EVEN BETTER! Upon entrance to the hostel you are greeted with a friendly staff who is knowledgeable about Nashville. In the common area there is a pool table, plenty of couches, tables, and a great kitchen facility. Plus, there is a BEER FRIDGE – what is a hostel without a beer fridge, really? Everyone that I met while staying at this hostel was extremely friendly, and I think part of the reason is because the atmosphere is perfectly set up for social encounters between the guests.

Cleanliness: Perfect. The rooms are very nice and clean. The bathrooms are kept very clean. There are a couple of single stall bathrooms with showers (for the more prude) and there is also community style bathrooms for both males and females.

Price: Great for everything you are getting, especially when you compare it to hotels in the area. You have to remember that you are paying for the location, community areas, and having a kitchen at your disposal. Hostels tend to cost a little bit more in the US than other countries anyways.

The ONLY downside: Hard liquor is prohibited in the whole hostel, and all beer and wine must be consumed on the community floor. The only reason this was a bummer was because Nashville is such an expensive city. We wanted to pre-drink for the bars but could only do that with beer.

Even if beer isn't my favorite beverage to pre-drink with, we made it work. Cheers to the Nashville Downtown Hostel! (Photo Credit: Abbey Murphy)
